Fertility and Women's Health
General Women's Health
Women's health is an area highly developed in Chinese medicine, with very detailed treatment records. It can be used as the sole method of treatment or in conjunction with other courses of treatment.
Among its applications, it's commonly used for period irregularities and pain; endometriosis; fibroids; PCOS; and symptoms of menopause syndrome.
The treatment methods include a mixture of Chinese herbal medicine and acupuncture, but can also and most often involve dietary and lifestyle adjustments. In addition, there might be other irregularities in other personal aspects such as mood and mental health and digestive problems, which under a proper holistic scope are usually addressed too.
Acupuncture for Fertility
During the past years Chinese medicine has developed a great popularity for the inability to fall pregnant. As there can be many reasons behind this disfunction, there are also many strategies in which they can be treated with acupuncture and herbs, and the treatment can be safely combined with any ongoing western medical treatments.
Most recently there has been a big increase in the support of IVF with acupuncture, and it now seems to be a common procedure recommended by many IVF fertility centres.
Acupuncture During Pregnancy and Labour Preparation
Acupuncture can be safely used by skilled practitioners in the treatment and support of many health issues during pregnancy. These can range from nausea; back pain; urinary incontinence; sleeping issues; breech position; and can support the treatment of more insidious problems such as preeclampsia; gestational diabetes; and threatened miscarriage.
The use of acupuncture in childbirth, to promote and prepare for labour, is also gaining popularity in the west. Midwives are now learning and supporting its use before and during labour.
Chinese medicine also offers solutions for health issues post-pregnancy, such as poor milk production, post-labour depression, and the body's recovery from pregnancy and labour.
